1. Call Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Non-Emergency dispatch (only call 911 if there is an emergency)
    • Dial 321-264-5100, wait until you start to hear options, then press “4”
    • Nicely and respectfully, tell the dispatcher there is an illegal camper on the Pineda Causeway and give the specific location.
      • Direct the dispatcher to this website www.pineda404.com Choose Map1 or Map2 or Map3 for location information.
    • Ask for a case number. If you do not ask for a case number, the call may not be entered in the database. (You can request to be Anonymous, but if you want the Deputy to call you back, you will need to give them a phone number in which to call you.)
      • You want the call in the database. This will show a pattern of illegal activity.
      • In order to get a case number, you will need to either speak or meet with a deputy.
      • The dispatcher will ask if you want to meet with a deputy in person or have the deputy call you.
      • If you don’t want to meet in person, have the deputy call you and get a case number.
      • You will get a call back from a blocked phone number with no caller ID. The person will identify themselves as BCSO.
      • Nicely and respectfully, tell the deputy what and the location of the illegal activity. Get a case number! Direct the deputy to this website www.pineda404.com Choose Map1 or Map2 or Map3 for location information.
      • Give the deputy some time to respond.
      • If the campers are still there the next day, call BCSO, give the case number, and ask for a status.
  2. NEVER USE THE WORDS “HOMELESS”, OR “HOMELESS PERSON”, NEVER SAY “HE/SHE LOOKS HOMELESS.” You will be told by BCSO that being homeless is NOT a crime and there is nothing they can do about homeless people.
  3. SUSPICIOUS is the correct word to use. SUSPICIOUS people or Suspicious Activities will be investigated. Homeless will not.
